Yogyakarta Vintage Newspaper & Magazine Exhibition (3rd-11th, July 2018)

DESCRIPTION:

Vintage newspapers and magazines can actually give us valuable knowledge in everything, for the betterment of our science in the future. Similarly, with newspapers and magazines from the past, of course, can provide knowledge of life both from Indonesia and the world to us. Since newspapers and magazines always print important events occurring during the day, in the fields of politics, religion, science, war, nationality, corruption, entertainment, movies and all kinds of events in this world are all in prints of newspapers or magazines of the day .

Perwajahan or graphic design on newspapers and magazines past it turns out to be a learning about graphic art is interesting, how about the limitations of print tools that still use handpress and simple technology, can produce prints that counted good newspapers, advertising images are still made with etching, which is arranged columns per column in the printed board, it took place before the electric printing press was produced around the 1870s.

This exhibition is held considering the importance of the role of newspapers and magazines in our lives. Moreover, today many newspapers and magazines are forced to fold, because the more advanced technology with digitalization on all lines of our lives. Only a few Indonesians still read newspapers and magazines, young people prefer social media to search for news.
Newspapers and magazines we collect are among the oldest of which are the newspapers published every Wednesday and Saturday of “Western-Star” published in 1871 in Betawi, published by Ogil Vie & Co and the youngest are all newspapers and magazines published before 17 August 1972, at where time is still using the old spelling.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
There is a cheap public transport to get there. Trans Jogja Bus. Ticket only IDR 4,000. First, you must go to halte bus/bus stop/shelter of Trans Jogja. Then, you must reach to Gramedia halte (halte Gramedia ), and then take a walk to the Bentara Budaya building. Ask to the operator if you still confused.

please take Route 1A – Stop in Gramedia shelter/halte

From Tugu Railway Station :
No Route available to this place. Just take a walk or use taxi motor
From Giwangan Bus Station :
please take Route 4B – Stop in Gramedia shelter/halte
Then, please take a walk to ‘Bentara Budaya’ building
From Jombor Bus Station :
please take Route 2B – Stop in Gramedia shelter/halte
Then, please take a walk to ‘Bentara Budaya’ building
