WHY BACKPACKER SHOULD VISIT SRI GETHUK WATERFALL?

THE “NATURAL WATERY STAIRWAY” WATERFALL
The waterfall has branches on a cliff and like watery stairway at the bottom.

CHEAP
The entry ticket is very cheap.
Only IDR10,000 (Rp10.000) for retribution.
IDR35,000 (Rp35.000) for body rafting.

EXOTIC PLACE
You visiting exotic place with nice view. Quiet and peaceful.
You can hear the sound of the water, birds and the sound of blowing wind.

CLOSE TO UNMAINSTREAM TOURISM SITE
This place are close to beautiful UNMAINSTREAM place. Such as,  RENCANG KENCONO CAVE  and WANAGAMA FOREST. It just only one way to the site. So, you spend your time effectively to visit these place.

WHERE IS IT?

LOCATION:
Village (Desa): Menggoran, Bleberan
Sub-district (Kecamatan): Playen
Regency (Kabupaten): Gunung Kidul
Province (Provinsi): Yogyakarta

DISTANCE:
About 40 km to south-east from downtown Yogyakarta or about 1 hours.

HOW TO GET TO SRI GETHUK WATERFALL?

There is no direct public transport over there.
Better you rent a car or motorcycle for cheap one. Invite local person as guide (Couchsurfer) for good reason.

*) It’s hard to find the place for new visitor. You can use Google maps or Map me applications or you may ask to the local people that you meet in the street. But, you have to take off your helmet and turn off the engine. This is the local manner. Otherwise, it’s not polite.

HOW MUCH IT COST?

ENTRANCE FEE TICKET:
IDR 10,000 (Rp10.000) for retribution.
IDR 35,000 (Rp35.000) for body rafting.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT?

OPENING HOURS:
7 am – 5 pm

*) If you visit on rainy season, you’ll found the color of the river water getting brown. More beautiful if you visit on summer (April – October), it’s mix between green and blue.

**) Update info: September 4th-6th, 2017 Sri Gethuk closed due to cleaning the area from the waste.

***) Update info: 28th November 2017 and the next days Sri Gethuk waterfall will be closed due to Cempaka cyclone. Sri Gethuk will  be open on 10th December 2017.

*) Before arrive on the Sri Gethuk spot better you visit the Rencang Kencono cave first. IDR 10K only.

OTHERS INFORMATION:

MOBILE PHONE SIGNAL:
There are weak  signal for your smartphone.

CAFE/RESTAURANT:
There are some cafe or restaurant.

*) For foreigner i recommend: Don’t drink with ice cube in any restaurant or street food in Indonesia, because indonesian ice cube made from not boiled water. It contain bacteria (E. Coli) that can makes stomach problem or diarrhea. Indonesian intestine become immune (adapted) to this bacteria, but not for expat (american and european especially).

BATHROOM/TOILET:
Some bathroom and toilet. Better bring your own tissue.

*) Don’t forget to bring your towel and extra clothes.

*) There are two option to go to Sri gethuk waterfall. First, you can use boat and pay for it. Second, you can walk through rice field.

**) Visit on the dry season will be better because the water clear and green. But, on the wet season sometime will looks brown.

*) This is pretty quiet place, but to get more quiet better do not visit on weekend.
