DESCRIPTION:

Melasti is a purification ceremony to welcome the Nyepi day (Day of Silent) by all Hindus in Indonesia. It was held to clean the ‘natural waste’ using the ‘water of life’.  In local Hindu beliefs, water sources such as springs, lakes, and seas are regarded as ‘water of life’ (tirta amerta). Melasti ceremony performed on the beach with the aim to purify themselves from all bad deeds in the past and throw them into the sea. 

Melasti ceremony consist of praying process  and washing (purification ) process of  sacred objects belonging to the temple. Praying process leaded by Hindus priest using a bell and then he go around and sprinkle holy water to all the pilgrims and the instruments (object) of worship and spread the incense smoke as a form of purification.

Parangkusumo beach, Parangtritis.

DISTANCE:
About 28 km south of Yogyakarta or about 45 minutes.

HOW TO GET TO THE LOCATION?

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
You can use Trans Jogja to Giwangan bus station (Terminal bis Giwangan), ticket about IDR 3500. Then change bus, from Giwangan bus station to Parangtritis. Then, stop at Parangkusumo beach. Then, take a take a walk to the beach. Ask bus operator if you confused. Operator will glad to give information. :-)

From Adi Sutjipto Airport :
please take Route 3B – Stop in Giwangan Bus station (Terminal Bis Giwangan)
Then take a small bus to Parangtritis beach – Stop at Parangkusumo beach
From Tugu Railway Station :
please take Route 2A – Stop in Tungkak shelter/halte.
Then, take Route 4A – Stop in Giwangan Bus station (Terminal Bis Giwangan)
Then take a small bus to Parangtritis beach – Stop at Parangkusumo beach
From Jombor Bus Station :
please take Route 2A – Stop in Tungkak shelter/halte.
Then, take Route 4A – Stop in Giwangan Bus station (Terminal Bis Giwangan)
Then take a small bus to Parangtritis beach – Stop at Parangkusumo beach
From Giwangan Bus Station :
please take small bus to Parangtritis beach – Stop at Parangkusumo beach

*) Trans Jogja operates from 5:30 am until 9:30 pm.

**) Better you rent a car or motorcycle for cheap one. Use Google map as navigation.
