BAKULAN (14-22 May 2019) -An Art Exhibition by Luddy Astaghis

DESCRIPTION:

Bakulan comes from the word “bakul” which means merchant, and the word “bakul” when getting an addition ‘an’ has a different meaning (bakulan) that is selling.

In his solo exhibition, Luddy Astaghis raised the theme Bakulan because the world of bakul is very close to everyday life. Luddy and his wife are the perpetrators (bakul). When someone goes through the profession as a bakul (seller), there is a lot of people demanded in everything, must be disciplined, must be polite, must be wise, must be brave, and must be firm.

It doesn’t stop there, in the world of bakul (an) there are so many conflicts, both internal and external. Every day conflicts always come and every day conflicts that come are always different. Luddy was also interested in his enthusiasm (bakul), moving from before dawn to dusk, full of energy and sweat, full of independence. From there he was interested in bringing and raising the theme ‘Bakulan’ with the problems in it to the art exhibition which was held at Bentara Budaya Yogyakarta, 14 – 22 May 2019.

Luddy Astaghis was born in Malang, June 17, 1976 and began exhibiting since 1996 until now (2019). Single exhibition twice in 2009 (“Knock Out” at City Work, Jakarta) and 2004 (“Sense of Life” at the Javanese Museum of Cultural Arts, Ullen Sentalu, Yogyakarta). The visual is in the form of dolls with cartoon character and made of cloth, paper, dacron, etc. and has a expression that reflects a cheerful, happy, sad, sad, humorous / humorous and even satirical atmosphere.
