Despite using the Google Map, the place of Taman Sari was really hard to find – not only for me 😉 Several people kept on asking around and the locals show you the way voluntarily. In the “Lonely Planet” it says, that these guys actually are guides or want to get money for their services – I don´t know. What do you think?

      Yes, that’s correct.
Even me as local i had the same experience when bringing traveler to the Yogyakarta Water castle.
A lady come to us, talk to us and give some info, till accompany us to the sights.
In the end she ask me a voluntary money for her service that we didn’t ask.
Yes, it’s annoying actually. But, in the local view. It is ok than she makes money by crime action.
Since in our country has a little vacancy, it’s understandable.
