DESCRIPTION:

The palace of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat or called Kraton Yogyakarta is the javanese culture living museum. The palace is the main living area of Sultan of Yogyakarta and his family. It became a cultural center for the Javanese people and include a museum that displays the sultan’s goods.

Yogyakarta kingdom was founded in 1755 after the Giyanti agreement. The palace of the Sultan of Yogyakarta is also encapsulated by myths and mystique. The spatial arrangement of the palace is based on the landscape of the old city of Yogyakarta, starting from the name used, architectural details and direction towards the building, each having philosophical value and mythology.

Yogyakarta Sultan palace has became one of the icons of Yogyakarta, where tourists can observe activities of the royal servants doing their job. A collection of stuffs such as carriage, weapons, various kind of batik can be found around the palace. Sometime, you also can see the classic javanese art show inside of the palace.

Kraton of Yogyakarta is a palace complex located in the downtown city of Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta Special Region, Indonesia.

HOW TO GET TO THE PALACE?

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
There is a cheap public transport to get there. Trans Jogja Bus. Ticket only IDR 4,000. First, you must go to halte bus/bus stop/shelter of Trans Jogja. Then, you must reach to Beteng Vredeburg Shelter (SO 1 Maret halte) or Main Post Office halte (halte Kantor Pos Besar), and then take a walk to the palace. Ask to the operator if you still confused.

From Adi Sutjipto Airport :
please take Route 1A – Stop in Beteng Vredeburg Shelter (SO 1 Maret halte)
then please take a walk to the Sultan palace (Kraton)
From Tugu Railway Station :
please take Route 1A or 2A – Stop in Beteng Vredeburg Shelter (SO 1 Maret halte)
then please take a walk to the Sultan palace (Kraton)
From Giwangan Bus Station :
please take Route 3B – Stop in Pojok Beteng Wetan Shelter,
then please take Route 2B – Stop in Kantor Pos Besar Shelter
then please take a walk to the Sultan palace (Kraton)
From Jombor Bus Station :
please take Route 2A – Stop in Beteng Vredeburg Shelter (SO 1 Maret halte)
then please take a walk to the Sultan palace (Kraton)

*) Trans Jogja operates from 5:30 am until 9:30 pm.

ENTRY TICKET:
IDR 12.5K per person (Entrance fee).
Camera permit : IDR1K

*) In some area you can not take a photo. Especially in the handmade textile Batik area. Maybe they don’t want you copy the design and patent it.

8 A.M – 12 A.M (Friday)

*) Update info: 30th November 2017 & 1st December 2017 the Sultan palace closed due to Grebeg Maulud ceremony.

JAVANESE CLASSIC ART & CULTURE SHOW:

Monday: Gamelan Music at 10.00 am
Tuesday: Gamelan Music at 10.00 am
Wednesday: Menak Puppet show at 10.00 am
Thursday: Traditional (classic) Dance show at 10.00 am
Friday: Sing a Traditional song (Macapat) at 9.00 am
Saturday: Leather Puppet (Wayang) show at 9.30 am
Sunday: Traditional (classic) Dance show at 9.30 am

*) The classic art show are amazing. That’s why Sultan palace become center of classic art show. In other city, the classic art show collapsed by the modern and global pop art show.

**) No show at Ramadhan (Holy month for moslem).
