WHY BACKPACKER SHOULD VISIT THIS PLACE?

ONE OF TWO DESERT IN JAVA
The desert is one of two desert in Java, the other is close to Bromo volcano.

EXOTIC DESERT 
You visiting exotic desert (sand dunes) with nice view, blue ocean, horizontal line.
You can also watch sunset from here. One of the best place to see the sunset.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
If you like outdoor exercise, you might love this place.
You need hike the sand hill, then doing sandboarding.
You need a lot of courage and concentration to try this sandboard.

CLOSE TO UNMAINSTREAM TOURISM SITE
This place are close to beautiful UNMAINSTREAM place. Such as, PARANGTRITIS BEACH, DEPOK BEACH, PARANGENDOG BEACH, LANGSE CAVE, IMOGIRI ROYAL CEMETARY etc. It just only one way to the site. So, you spend your time effectively to visit these place.

*) It’s common if you falling down at your first time do the sandboarding. After that you can try the unsteep hills. So, you can feel your body balance. Then you can back to the steep hill and try not to falling down.

**) Put your center of weight body in the back. Then use your back foot as a brake if you move so fast. Then use your hands for balancing.

*) Don’t forget bring and wear your glasses when doing sandboarding. Sometime it’s windy. So, you need glasses.

WHERE IS IT?

LOCATION:
Village (Desa): Parangkusumo
Sub-district (Kecamatan): Depok
Regency (Kabupaten): Bantul
Province (Provinsi): Yogyakarta

DISTANCE:
About 30km to south from downtown Yogyakarta or about 45 minutes depend on traffic.

HOW TO GET TO THE SITE?

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
You can use Trans Jogja to Giwangan bus station (Terminal bis Giwangan), ticket about IDR4000. Then change bus, from Giwangan bus station to Parangtritis. Then, stop before Parangtritis beach. Ask bus operator if you confused.

From Adi Sutjipto Airport :
please take Route 3B – Stop in Giwangan Bus station (Terminal Bis Giwangan)
please take small bus to Parangtritis beach – Stop before Parangtritis beach
From Tugu Railway Station :
please take Route 2A – Stop in Tungkak shelter/halte.
Then, take Route 4A – Stop in Giwangan Bus station (Terminal Bis Giwangan)
please take small bus to Parangtritis beach – Stop before Parangtritis beach
From Jombor Bus Station :
please take Route 2A – Stop in Tungkak shelter/halte.
Then, take Route 4A – Stop in Giwangan Bus station (Terminal Bis Giwangan)
please take small bus to Parangtritis beach – Stop before Parangtritis beach
From Giwangan Bus Station :
please take small bus to Parangtritis beach – Stop before Parangtritis beach

*) Trans Jogja operates from 5:30 am until 9:30 pm.

**) Better you rent a car or motorcycle for cheap one. Invite local person as guide (Couchsurfer) for good reason.

ENTRY TICKET:
None. Only government retribution in first gate.

MOBILE PHONE SIGNAL:
There will be strong signal for your cell phone.

CAFE/RESTAURANT:
There is one simple cafe.

*) For foreigner i recommend: Don’t drink with ice cube in any restaurant or street food in Indonesia, because indonesian ice cube made from not boiled water. It contain bacteria (E. Coli) that can makes stomach problem or diarrhea. Indonesian intestine become immune (adapted) to this bacteria, but not for foreigner (american and european especially).

BATHROOM/TOILET:
Bathroom and toilet at restaurant and near Parangtritis beach.
*) Better bring your own tissue.

**) You maybe need take a shower after sandboarding cause your body full of sands. Don’t forget to bring your towel and extra clothes.

SANDBOARD RENTAL FEE:
International: IDR100K.
Local: IDR75K.

CHECK THE OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES FROM VIDEO:

*) Sandboarding only able on Summer. April – October. The best month: middle of June – September. On rainy season seems impossible to do this cause the sand is wet.

**) There are two place that you can doing sandboarding in here. First, close to main street. The other, close to Manasik Haji place.

***) To avoid hot temperature, better you visit in the morning, before 10.00 am or after 3.00 pm.

SOME  ATTRACTIONS NEAR THE SAND DUNES:

You can combine to visit these places when you visiting Sand dunes:

1. Parangtritis beach + surfing + sunset (5 minutes from the sand dunes).
2. Depok seafood restaurant (10 minutes from the sand dunes).
3. Parangendog + Paragliding + sunset spot (10 minutes from the sand dunes).
4. Langse cave + Devil’s track (15 minutes from the sand dunes).
5. Cerme cave (30 minutes from the sand dunes).
6. Mangunan fruit garden + sunrise (45 minutes from the sand dunes).

    I read about Watu Lumbung Hill nearby Gumuk Pasir, I wonder if it’s worth it and if there’s any entrance fees needed?

      Hi,

      Well, Watu Lumbung is like cafe which has nice view.
      Yup, it’s near from Gumuk Pasir Parangkusumo.
      You don’t have to pay the entrance fee.
      You just pay the parking fee and pay your drink or meals.
      It’s good for photo spot.
      Especially on sunset.

      Yes, it’s a must for visitor.
      You just pay it once.
      Then you can visit many places.
      Such as Parangkusumo sand dunes, Parangtritis beach, Depok beach and Paragliding hill.

      Hello!
      Well, it’s depend on the weather on the day it self.
      If sunny day it will makes the sand dunes dry and able for sand boarding.
      December is wet/rainy season.
      It’s often raining on December.
      But, it doesn’t mean you can’t do the sandboarding.
      It depend on the weather.
