UNIQUE CUISINE 
This cuisine are made from fried red Catfish (Beong) + Coconut milk (Santan) + Turmeric.
Usually Javanese make mangut with common catfish. But, this cuisine use red tail catfish which is not common for mangut cuisine.

You can not found this cuisine in Yogyakarta cause the Beong fish only founded in Progo river in Magelang.

The cuisine are so tasty and very spicy.
If you don’t like spicy food, they also provide not spicy one.
The fish meat texture are soft and gentle. It also tasty cause it caught from the river, not from fish farming.

WHAT IS MANGUT BEONG?

DESCRIPTION:

Mangut is a  typical menu of the region “Mataraman” (Yogya-Solo) and Semarang-Kendal. As the name implies, the main composition is fried catfish, flavored mangut (Coconut milk + turmeric + spices). 

Beong is a local name for a kind of cat fish who live in Progo river, Magelang. International name of this kind of fish called Red Tail Catfish. Indonesia still can’t farm this kind of fish. They just caught or fishing on Progo river.

Village (Desa): Kembanglimus
Sub-district (Kecamatan): Borobudur
Regency (Kabupaten): Magelang
Province (Provinsi): Central Java (Jawa Tengah)

*) It’s not easy to find the place cause it is hidden among village houses. Better you ask the local citizen if you lost. But, you have take off your helmet and turn off the engine. This is the local manner. Otherwise, it’s not polite.

DISTANCE:
About 2 km to the north west from Borobudur Magelang.

HOW TO GET TO MANGUT BEONG RESTAURANT?

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:

There is a cheap public transport to get there. Trans Jogja Bus. Ticket only IDR 4,000. First, you must go to halte bus/bus stop of Trans Jogja. Then, you must reach to Jombor Bus Station halte/shelter (halte Jombor), and then change bus to Borobudur and pay about IDR 30,000. From Borobudur bus station you can take a taxi motorcycle to the restaurant.  Ask to the operator if you still confused. Operator will glad to give information. :-)

please take Route 3A – Stop in Condongcatur Shelter,
then please take Route 2A – Stop in Jombor Bus Station
please take a bus direct to Borobudur
Then please take a taxi motor to the restaurant
From Tugu Railway Station :
please take Route 3A (at Malioboro Shelter) – Stop in Ngabean Shelter,
then please take Route 2B – Stop in Jombor Bus Station

*) This restaurant popular with spicy foods. If you don’t like spicy cuisine better you ask one which is not spicy.

Spicy = Pedas
Not = Tidak

Not spicy = Tidak pedas.

***) For foreigner i recommend don’t drink with ice in any restaurant or street food in Indonesia, because indonesian ice made from not boiled water. It contain bacteria (E. Coli) that can makes stomach problem or diarrhea. Indonesian intestine become immune (adapted) to this bacteria, but not for expat (american and european especially).
