DESCRIPTION:

Nasi Gudeg is a traditional Javanese cuisine from Yogyakarta and Central Java, Indonesia. Gudeg is made from young unripe jack fruit(Javanese: gori, Indonesian: nangka muda) boiled for several hours with palm sugar, and coconut milk. Additional spices include garlic, shallot, candlenut, coriander seed, galangal, bay leaves, and teak leaves, the latter giving a reddish brown color to the dish..

HISTORY:
An authentic Nasi Gudeg “Gudeg Pawon” Restaurant has existed since 5 decades ago, precisely founded in 1958 and pioneered by Prapto Widarso. Now this restaurant managed by Sumarwanto, son of Prapto Widarso. Initially Gudeg Pawon sold in Sentul market Yogyakarta at 3 am and the market has a lot of queuing to buy this cuisine. However, over time a lot of customers who come directly to the house to enjoy this cuisine. Often, the cuisine sold out before being sell in the market. Therefore, since 2000 Prapto Widarso decided to no longer sell on the market. He decided to sell “gudeg” at home or in the kitchen exactly. And since then also this restaurant operates from 10 pm.

HOW TO GET TO THE RESTAURANT?

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
You can use Trans Jogja to the restaurant, ticket about IDR4000. You have to reach Trans Jogja halte/shelter first and stop on SGM bus halte/shelter. Then, take a walk to the restaurant. Better you rent a car or motorcycle for cheap one. Invite local person as guide (Couchsurfer) for good reason.

From Adi Sutjipto Airport :
please take Route 1B – Stop in SGM shelter/halte.
Then, take a walk to the restaurant
From Tugu Railway Station :
please take Route 2A – Stop in SGM shelter/halte.
Then, take a walk to the restaurant.
From Jombor Bus Station :
please take Route 2A – Stop in SGM shelter/halte.
Then, take a walk to the restaurant.
From Giwangan Bus Station :
please take Route 4B – Stop in SGM shelter/halte.
Then, take a walk to the restaurant.

*) Trans Jogja operates from 5:30 am until 9:30 pm.

**) The restaurant open at 10 pm. No Trans Jogja et all. So, better you rent a motorcycle to this place.

*) This is fucking crazy restaurant, it open in the middle of the night and has long queue. Amazing! Good business! 🙂

WATCH THE GUDEG PAWON ON VIDEO:

*) If you have no time in the night to visit this restaurant, but you still wanna try local culinary “Gudeg”. You can visit Gudeg center in the afternoon at Wijilan street. But, don’t surprise the taste is very very sweet. Unlike Gudeg Pawon taste.

*) For foreigner i recommend: Don’t drink with ice cube in any restaurant or street food in Indonesia, because indonesian ice cube made from not boiled water. It contain bacteria (E. Coli) that can makes stomach problem or diarrhea. Indonesian intestine become immune (adapted) to this bacteria, but not for foreigner (american and european especially).

      If you booking the custom tour,
      the driver will bring you to the places as same as your itinerary.
